The feeding would tend to have a lot of common breastfeeding problems for the mothers in terms of lactation, infection, comfortability, and many others. That is why the doctors would be there to help you, but knowing first hand what to do is very beneficial.

There are latching pains that may happen for the mother. This is either caused by incorrect positioning of the mouth or by some other underlying causes. First, you need to remove the latch by sliding one finger and letting the baby release the latch. You can either wait for them to yawn or tickle their chins so you can reposition and have them latch again.

Cracked nipples could mean that there are latching problems, dry skin, thrush, or incorrect pumping of the breast. This could be an symptoms to other worse cases, but before that you need to do some initial adjustments by doing the same repositioning. You can also let the cracks heal through either water or with the milk. Do not even try to use other moisturizers.

If the ducts are clogged and then if there is also a feeling of feverish temperature and aching breasts, then it could be a sign of an infection. But if it is only a bearable sore and redness, you can do some warm compress to ease the pain. Also, massaging it gently would let the milk flow better as well.

The lactation can sometimes be in a large amount and this would tend to give the baby an uncomfortable or difficult time for them to latch on the breast. Hand express the milk first until it becomes softer before letting the baby latch. If the nursing is more frequent, it is then less likely for it to engorge.

Mastitis is an infection caused by bacteria. It is accompanied with fever and breast pains. This might be caused by engorgement, plugged ducts, and cracked skin. The only way to solve this is through antibiotics, hot compression, and frequently expressing the milk.

Thrush is an infection caused by yeast or fungi. It is found first around the mouth of your baby which spreads to yours breasts eventually. It creates rash, soreness, and itchiness and you can ask your doctor on which anti fungal remedies you can get. Treat both the baby and your breast so that it heals at the same time.

There are times when the breast would feel like there are small needles poking it, but this is quite normal. But if it lasts longer than a few minutes and the pain tends to become unbearable, this is already a sign for an infection. Ask help from your doctor in order to know what kind of infection this is and to get a prescription.
